The "Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana" is an ongoing program started by the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India, to encourage students of Basic Sciences, Engineering and Medicine to take up research careers in these areas. The aim of the program is to identify and encourage talented students with aptitude for research.
No, KVPY scholarship is meant only Basic Sciences; the exam you may use as to evaluate your performance in coming up exam. although even that is not very perfect evaluation. I could never understand why students are appearing for the examination when you will neither get scholarship nor you will be called as fellows in case you are not joining basic sciences; rather may be some student who would be in need would have lost the opportunity to get the scholarship. yes there is a benefit, just in case you could not get through any exam and are willing to join BS in IIS or IISER, you will be given offer directly. Anyways congrates and best wishes.
I agree to what Rajkumar wrote...Students take KVPY not to become scientist or to pursue pure science but to build their brand value by bagging the prestigious KVPY fellowship...it is an irony ...I was at the KVPY interview site ....while the interview panel was trying to search for bright students having scientific temper and aptitude for pure science, their parents were busy talking about IIT coaching, performance of their ward in the mock JEE tests conducted by these coaching centres, and chances of their ward getting into the IITs....what a tragedy....
Most of the KVPY fellows join IIT....IIT still is considered better brand than IISc and technology better than pure science...
These are facts of today's academic scenario in our nation...
However congrats to all KVPY fellows...indeed a very good success...
There is no reason to get demoralized...Competing KVPY means almost nothing if you do not get good rank in IIT ( of course if your aim to study basic science, then getting KVPY fellowship may help in getting direct admission to IISC B'lore B.S. Prog)
I know many good students who could not become KVPY fellow but did extremely well in JEE; the reverse is also established...
Many of the students who could not become NTSE scholar in class 8, have cracked the KVPY SA, whereas many NTSE scholars fell wayside...
So Dhruv, the race continues...life is a great leveler...it gives you many chances to prove yourself...the KVPY result is actually reflection of one good day's performance some 4 month's before ....even in this 4 months the race might have altered the positions of all those who competed in kvpy on 4 Nov 2012....
Hence, instead of getting demoralized, you should increase your tempo and should vow to beat those who won the kvpy race ahead of you...
Highly Impressed by NTSE Coach, Greetings, I too experienced the same at interview venue, to add just go through one paper of JEE and you will find the big difference in paper pattern & way to solve the same, also KVPY mark ranks upto 275+ where as you have almost fine place even at 500+ rank in jEE. even if you count the ranks here. Yes true the ranks are reflection of what you performed 4 months back and everyday scenario of your labor changes. To add, marks of your evaluation by school teacher also means a lot here, if your subject teacher feeling proud to make and note for you and out of "enthusiasm" to mark your ratting is not upto the level with what a "better fee" school teacher have given to their teachers, then also you will get the stroke what Dhruv would have faced. So kvpy is - what you did 4 months back+your teachers remarks for you+your level of confidence on interview day+dominance of one of the subject teacher coinciding with the subject of your taste on the day of interview+your hold on English Language=total marks you got here. Where as JEE / PMT's are on the other hand are based on the labour/expertise of three subject in tune of the question papers going to be asked. The question paper patterns again different for different exams in both Engg and Medical. Finally, Dhruv if it was the case of SA then you will get a better chance in Class XII again and if not then please do concentrate on you comingup exams which are round the corner. Kvpy result would not give you any excuse to get a lower marks, so put on the best efforts you can, all the best. NTSE Coach-I am obliged that you second my view in favour of young students. thanks a lot, please do keep helping students atleast till your ward is also fighting for the same, my best wishes to your ward too. regards rajkumar
I searched about the top 5 Rankers in 2010 KVPY SA Stream and found them in prestigious Institutes. This shows how best the KVPY Scholars are: Rank Seat No. Name Presently Studying 1 A1510029 DIPTARKA HAIT : MIT/USA 2 A2320618 TWINKLE PAREKH : AIIMS/Delhi 3 A1120082 I JEEVANA PRIYA : MIT/USA 4 A1510213 AKASHDEEP DEY : CMI/Chennai 5 A0430036 GANESH AJJANAGADDE: MIT/USA Best wishes to 2012 top rankers. Regards acadamic adviser
Interesting findings by acadamic advisor....none of the KVPY toppers have joined IIT !!! Majority of them chose MIT/USA university....This reflects the reality of aspirations of today's brightest student of India ...
IITs are not the final destination for the super talented science students....USA Ivy League colleges comes before the IIT. In coming days, I expect IISc Banglore, CMI cheenai, ISI Kolkata, etc shall become viable alternative to the IITs...
Brightest talents will be attracted towards colleges/universities providing multiple career opportunities globally...IITs were preferred for they provided multiple career opportunities - Management( read IIMs), Civil services, M.S./PHD from USA, Good job in MNCs, etc
However, in comparison to IITs, UG courses from Ivy league colleges in USA are providing better opportunities at globally...In fact many of the IIT+IIM degree holder joining the MNCs are shattered to see MIT/Havard educated peers becoming their top bosses....
My daughter is in Class 11 and wants to join IISc Bangalore. If she clears the KVPY stream SA in Class 11 - is that enough for IISc . Or there is a difference between mentorship and fellowship. Pls explain
Congrats to all those who tried for KVPY fellowship. It is a difficult, 2 stage exam. So, no regrets if you didn't get it.
ReplyDeleteCongrats to those who got the fellowship as well. Hopefully, you will make a good scientist.
